Spotify Desktop Updates with Apps, Improved UI, and Better Overall Experience.

Over the last day, Spotify has been rolling out Spotify v0.8.0. From the Spotify blog:
To recap, the great new features we’ve packed into this release include:
- Spotify Apps: includes the first apps from Rolling Stone, Last.fm, Songkick, The Guardian, TuneWiki, Soundrop, Pitchfork, Fuse, We Are Hunted, Billboard Top Charts, Moodagent, Top10, Tunigo (Sweden) and Dagbladet (Norway). More to come!
- Spotify Radio
- Updated ‘What’s New’ page
- Predictive search results
- Playlist search
- New “Buddy List”
- Add to Favourites
- Full-screen support for OS X Lion
I love this new advancement in what I already considered a near-flawless service. This is one of the very few services (outside of Hulu Plus) that I am willing to pay a monthly subscription. At $9.99, I have unlimited music at the palm of my hands (available offline) and a music recommendation service that has given me hours of new music to enjoy and discover (coupled with using Turntable.fm, plenty of new music all the time).
With v0.8.0, Spotify really begins to show why it has the ability to take on iTunes and other cloud-based music services such as Google and Amazon as the go-to music service.
I am really excited for the future of Spotify.
Spotify “Currently Playing” RSS Feed List Widget - demo
This utilizes three resources: SimplePie RSS Parser here, Last.fm account (using the RSS Feed for your “Recently Played” section on your profile), and Spotify ‘scrobbled’ to Last.fm. Combining all these you are able to build a simple RSS feed list. This is NOT a direct Spotify RSS feed. That isn’t an option yet. Note: I am working on a jQuery option utilizing jFeed and will make it available ASAP.

UPDATE: Apparently, there are a lot of nice last.fm plugins that will essentially do what I just did. Oh well, it was a good way to spend a half hour anyways. :)
The Weeknd’s second album, Thursday, is here.
Marco Brambilla is a visual genius. Very cool video.
